Volume III, the forthcoming full-length from Montreal's SONS OF ARRAKIS, is scheduled for January 22, 2027, through Black Throne Productions. The announcement, circulated by C Squared Music, arrives alongside the new single ‘Rise of Disaster’, featuring guest vocals by Luc Bourgeois (SANDVEISS). The album will be available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats.
The accompanying ‘Rise of Disaster’ video introduces a song concerned with the exploitation of crisis, extending the band's storytelling beyond its creative foundation in Frank Herbert's Dune.
War, trauma and competing narratives
SONS OF ARRAKIS identify Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine as a major lyrical influence. Their explanation focuses on how political and economic powers can use fear and collective suffering to strengthen control.
“‘Rise of Disaster’ deals with war, manipulation and the way fear, suffering and collective trauma can be exploited by political and economic powers,” the band explain. “One of the major influences behind the lyrics was Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine and its examination of how moments of crisis can be used to impose new forms of control.”
The song's central question is deliberately left open. “The recurring question ‘Whose side are you on?’ deliberately has no simple answer. It reflects the pressure to choose between competing narratives while the same cycle of violence, destruction and retaliation continues underneath them.”
The announcement describes a musical arrangement that moves between urgent, heavy verse rhythms and melodic choruses with an uplifting contrast. A chaotic instrumental finale returns the track to its darker atmosphere. That shifting approach fits the band's own descriptions of its sound as melange rock and cinematic sci-fi rock, combining raw riffs, atmosphere and narrative.
