West Java, Indonesia-based avant-metal vocal ensemble Ensemble Tikoro will release Tortoise on cassette and digital formats through Jangjang Records on October 23, 2026.
The group combines extreme metal vocal techniques with throat singing and traditional instruments, placing heavy music alongside elements of Sundanese culture, ritual sound and contemporary composition.
Tortoise captures Parts 2 and 3 of a larger performance work. Part 2 contains seven short pieces based on the seven chakras, using extended vocal techniques alongside singing bowls and shaman drums. Part 3 expands that palette with tingsha, or Tibetan ritual cymbals.
The album was recorded at Pilarin Corp by Ade Syaepudin, mixed and mastered at 7 Kerikil by Robi Rusdiana, with artwork by Tandani Mutaqim.
