Brujo Nativo have released “Carnaval”, a new single that brings their heavy rock together with elements of Andean folk. The Chilean band frame the song around celebration, freedom and Latin American roots, following their debut album La Fuerza, released in mid-2025.
Singer, flautist and songwriter Lucier, also identified as JM Carrasco, describes “Carnaval” as a spiritual successor to “Buitre”, a single from that first album. The new song shifts its attention from legend to the right of working people to enjoy themselves and find moments of freedom.
Bassist Imago, Ismael Vicencio, approaches the same idea through the pressure of everyday life. In his explanation, carnival offers a temporary break from what weighs people down, allowing them to gather, celebrate and do what they love. Music is his own example of that release.
The announcement identifies Andean carnivals and celebrations such as La Tirana among the song’s reference points. Charango and flute play central roles, connecting the band’s heavier instruments with Andean traditions. It also cites the legacy of Los Jaivas in that musical context.
Formed in 2022, Brujo Nativo developed around the combination of rock instruments with charango, quena and zampoña. Their wider subject matter draws on Chilean culture, magic, death, roots and local mythology. “Carnaval” continues that musical identity while changing the thematic focus.
