KINETIC – Digital Mind Examines Digital Immortality on Debut Album Liminal

KINETIC explore the cost of virtual existence in their Digital Mind video, accompanying debut concept album Liminal, released October 16 through Eclipse Records.

KINETIC bring the technological themes of their debut album Liminal into focus with the music video for “Digital Mind.” Directed by Marcus H. Levin, it depicts a future in which human beings leave their biological bodies behind for existence inside a virtual network. The Danish progressive metal band's album was released on October 16, 2026, through Eclipse Records.

According to the label's announcement, “Digital Mind” is the third of three videos from Liminal, following “Evolution” and “Dyson.” Its story examines the darker implications of digital immortality, with the central character confronting what uploading his consciousness means for his connection to the physical world.

Keyboardist Marcus explains: “As in the previous music videos, the video contains both obvious symbols and details that require a little more digging to uncover.” He identifies the band's changing appearance as a key to that narrative: “The central visual symbol throughout the video is the band itself gradually glitching and distorting digitally. This represents the slow transition from a physical state into a digital one, mirroring the transformation taking place within the story.”

The character's memories are part of the same process. Marcus describes him looking through old photographs at the beginning as he comes to terms with leaving physical life behind. “The memories themselves begin to glitch, suggesting that the decision has already been made on some level – and that the digital world is beginning to lure him in.”

That individual transformation sits within the broader scientific and philosophical framework of Liminal. The album draws musical and lyrical inspiration from the Kardashev Scale, astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev's framework for measuring a civilization's technological advancement by the energy it can harness. The announcement describes a continuous storyline across the record, developed through long-form compositions and cinematic arrangements rather than conventional verse-chorus structures.

Liminal follows KINETIC's 2025 debut EP, Sentience, and marks their debut on the Eclipse Records roster. Frederik Uglebjerg produced, engineered, mixed and mastered the album. Lasse H. Görlitz and Marcus H. Levin created its cover artwork.

The eleven-track running order is “Beginnings,” “Evolution,” “New Frontiers,” “Type 0.75,” “Fermi,” “Progress to One,” “Dyson,” “Journey to the Stars,” “Digital Mind,” “2 to Five” and “Omega.”

Based in Kolding, Denmark, KINETIC comprise René Hougaard on lead vocals, David Thing on guitar and backing vocals, Christian Filskov Heitmann on bass, Marcus H. Levin on synth and Rune Görlitz on drums. The supplied band photograph is credited to KINETIC.
